Haverford College (PA) eliminating loans for new freshmen

It was announced by the President, Stephen G. Emerson, that all new students will have grants instead of loans in their financial aid packages.  Complete details for continuing students have not yet been finalized.  Stay tuned for updates.

TOEFL takers can retake the test Jan. 5th

If you experienced a glitch and were unable to take the test it has been rescheduled.   Contact the test center or ETS to be sure they will be able to offer it.

University of Pennsylvania joins no-loan club

Penn is the latest school to eliminate loans from financial aid awards.  Beginning in Fall 2008, families with incomes less than $100,000 will have no loans. Families above that income will have their loans reduced by 10%.  In Fall 2009 all students will receive financial aid packages with no loans.

Pomona College (CA) eliminates loans

Pomona College is eliminating loans in financial aid packages and replacing those amounts with scholarships, effective 2008-09. The change will apply to both current and future students.

Cal Tech joins “no loan” group

The California Institute of Technology is eliminating loans for domestic students whose familys’ incomes are less than $60,000.   This new program will become effective for undergraduates entering next fall.

Harvard cuts college costs

Aloha state revamps its 529 Savings Plan

The state yesterday unveiled a revamped college savings program designed to give parents more investment options and tax benefits to help prepare for the costs of college.

More colleges going free

Princeton, Davidson, Amherst and Williams are no nonger offering loans and starting next fall, Duke will give a free ride to families earning less than $40,000.
