Posted on February 29th, 2008 by Reecy

“Students have a right to …
1.  Pay off college loans early without incurring an early-repayment charge.
2.  Cancel a private loan within three days of signing an agreement with a lender.
3.  Take 30 days after approval for a private loan to think about whether the loan is needed without risking changes to the loan terms.
4.  Take […]

Vassar makes a vain effort

Posted on February 28th, 2008 by Reecy

Vassar announced their new Poughkeepsie High School Scholarship Program, which will begin next fall with the Class of 2012.  It will eliminate student loans from financial aid  and replace them with scholarships.  The sad thing about this program is that it will only be applicable to students who are graduates of Poughkeepsie High School and have spent at least […]

Brown gets the gold

Posted on February 25th, 2008 by Reecy

Another Ivy revises financial aid.  Brown students from families who make less than $100,000 per year will no longer have loans as part of their financial aid packages.
Students from families who earn less than $60,000 will attend on the cheap (free).
The policy also reduces loans for all students who receive financial aid, regardless of income. These new provisions […]

FAFSA alert - file now and avoid the rush

Posted on February 22nd, 2008 by Reecy

Every family with a college or college-bound student should file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to get into the financial aid system.  There is only so much aid available, and if you wait until you’ve filed your tax returns it could be too late.
A misconception about the FAFSA is that is can and should be filed […]

Stanford goes loan free

Posted on February 20th, 2008 by Reecy

Stanford University announced that beginning with the 2008-2009 school year, students from families with incomes under $60,000 will get a free ride!  Students from families with incomes under $100,000 will get free tuition.  Think this has anything to do with the fact that their endowment fund was #1 in new money raised last year with $832,000,000?
